You are on this article right now because you are probably looking for some new pet or possibly a replacement one. Most likely you saw a sign that was selling North Carolina ragdoll kittens, and this has somewhat made you interested in this breed. Before you do go and buy one, please read on in this article first.

The breed is named after a turn of the century toy doll called a rag doll. A rag doll is basically a cloth doll that has no structure on it and very soft. This cat will suddenly go limp and almost boneless when it is handled. As it is a docile cat, anyone can just come up and get it, so it should be kept inside at all times. Keeping it inside also makes sure it does not get into fights with stray animals, which it is sure to lose.

These cats are great to have around children as they are quite safe and loving. They will tend to paw at their toys or anything that they are curious in rather than claw at it. Thus there is no fear of them accidentally scratching anything.

These cats come in a variety of colors but their main distinguishing feature is that they are all blue eyed. Their paws area also always mitted, meaning they look like they are always wearing white mittens. These cats are also considered as one of the biggest domestic cats and can reach up to twenty pounds for males and fifteen pounds for females. This basically means that you will need both hands to support them when picking them up.

These cats are also doglike in the things that they do. They love to follow you around and wait outside the door for you should you enter the room. They also are fond of small stuff animals and toys and will carry these around when playing with them. Remarkably, they can also be taught the game of fetch just like a dog.

The breed is generally healthy throughout its lifetime, which can last for up to fifteen years on average. They will be prone to hear complications and heart problems as age progresses, so it is good to watch their diet as they get older and let them have regular visits to the vet when able.

Grooming is not an issue for this cat as they do like to be brushed and cleaned. They should be groomed and brushed at least twice a week so as to prevent the fur from matting and tangling. Their ears should be cleaned and their nails trimmed at least twice a month so as to prevent infections also.

This article has thus shown you some important things to know about this breed before you buy one. You can of course do more in depth research on this breed as the need arises, just be sure to get all the information you do need to make an informed decision in the end and make that commitment.
