A Look At Bengal Kittens

By Patrick Baker

If you are looking for a new cat there are things you will want to learn about the breed of feline you will choose. Bengal kittens are among the most beautiful and exotic animals. However, before you bring one of these felines into your life you should learn about the breed. It is important to understand temperament and behavior of these gorgeous animals.

This is a unique breed of feline that is the result of crossbreeding domestic felines with the Asian Leopard Cat. This breed of cat was created in the 1970s and 80s. The focus was to breed the disposition of the domestic cat with the beauty of a wild cat to produce this exquisite animal. The goal was accomplished.

You will notice that the Bengal cat has a magnificent fur coat. It is soft and smooth to touch and beautiful to see. The fur glistens in light and has spotted and marbled patterns. Both the marbled and swirl pattern are a combination of 3 colors and different shades.

The Bengals come in an array of colors. The most common colors are blue, brown, silver, and snow. Newer colors include cinnamon, chocolate, and charcoal. The Snows are also called Seal Sepia, Seal Mink, and Seal Lynx Point. You can even get a black or charcoal cat known as melanistic. These cats are like the wild Panther in that they do have marbling and spots but you can only see them in particular light conditions.

A Seal Lynx Point is of Siamese ancestry and always have bright blue eyes. The Seal Sepia is of Burmese ancestry and will never have blue eyes. The Seal Mink is a mix of Sepia and Lynx Point and can have any eye color. Even though the Seal Mink can have blue eyes, they are never as brilliant a blue as the Lynx Point.

The Bengals are pretty big with males weighing as much as 15 pounds and females as much as twelve. Of course there are some cats that are bigger or smaller than the average size, so if a kitten does not reach this weight range there is no cause to be concerned. This is an agile but strong breed with an athletic and slim body. The hind legs are a little longer than the front legs which gives their back a slight arch when standing in a certain position.

Additional physical features of this breed include a small head in comparison to body size. The ears are also small and are suggestive of their ancestry. The ears will also have a patch of short fur that is shaped like a thumb. The thumbprint is similar to that of tabby cats. In addition, they have an M design on their forehead.

Bengals are a bit mischievous, highly intelligent, and need a lot of interaction. They are quite vocal especially when it comes to food or having their litter changed. The also love to play with their people, are easy to train, and love water. If you are looking for an active, affectionate cat, the Bengal is a good choice.
