We are living in times of happy photos and sad people. This statement points at the dilemma of a world that is almost plastic and difficult to understand. Raising teen today parenting teenager becomes one of the toughest jobs. How can a parent raise children who fit into the society and are ready to tackle the challenges of the future?

Work on the basic elements of life. The foundation is the secret to bringing up grounded children. Teach your teen how to respect authority, adults and systems. They must also understand the principle of hard work and creating habits or respecting norms. This ensures that they are not swept away in the working-smart hash-tag. These basics also enable them to survive in any circumstance.

You remain responsible of what these teens become. They might learn from friends, peers and the internet, among other sources. However, you remain the parent or guardian. Every action or word uttered around them has a meaning. Spend time with them instead of spending resources on them.

Appreciate that they know more than you did at their age. They are searching for things over the internet. Their friends are also sharing a lot with them. Micro-managing them or twisting information will therefore not work. The solution is to talk openly and direct the manner in which they process the information they come across.

They will love you, hate you, love you again and hate you once more, all in a minute. Do not be quick to judge or react. This will only cause unnecessary friction. Let the teens to be but do not allow them to go overboard. Observe and appreciate these phases of their existence.

Listen to words that they do not speak. These teens will speak their mind but will keep to themselves in some situations. They have a unique and subtle way of communicating. Preempt their moves and provide direction. Their actions will give you a more reliable signal than their words.

Show them love but do not pamper them. It is important to make teens today to feel loved. Beyond that, you must say it with your mouth often enough, else they will go looking for it elsewhere. However, avoid bowing to every wish they make. They are likely to turn out to be demanding and with a sense of entitlement.

Be cautious of emotional manipulation. Teens are likely to claim that you do not love them when you are scolding them. It will be a huge mistake to give in to their requests on the basis of manipulation. Be firm and let them learn that they can face rejection and failures.

Do not raise them like those of your neighbor. Teach the teenagers to be content with what they have. Show them the privileges they have over their friends and neighbors. They will stop comparing themselves to others and in the process appreciate their uniqueness.

Treat each kid differently even if they are siblings. Whether they are older or younger, allow each of them to have a unique path in life. Comparing them affects their self-esteem. Make each kid to believe in his or her unique abilities.
