The Basics Of Roof Replacement

By Andrew B. Spates

Roofs are extremely important parts of any home because they protect the interior from any dirt, bugs, and the elements. So once the roofing is damaged, it needs to be replaced right away otherwise one will not be able to protect himself or herself. Just for those who need some help with roof replacement, here are a few things that one would have to take note of.

Now, the first step of the whole process is to first put up a scaffold in order to protect the house. Put over some drapery so that the debris and the remnants of the old roofing will not get into the house. Once the whole protection site has been put up, then one way climb to the roof and start with the process.

When the protection has been put up, then one has to take out the shingles to expose the wooden foundation. The first step here is to check for any rotten or wet wood on the foundation. If he or she spots anything like that, take them out immediately and nail in some new and fresh wood to replace the rotten ones.

When all of the rotting wood has been replaced, then new shingles can be installed. Take note that if the wooden foundation is not stable, then the shingles will not be able to hold in place. That is why it is extremely important to ensure that the foundation in itself is already secure.

When that is done, one will now do a drip edge installation which involves installing a metal piece on the edge of the roof in order to keep rain from falling underneath it. When that has already been installed, then one has to install the water and ice shield. This is used to protect the roofing from snow, hale, or rain during the stormy type of weather.

After doing that, one should place a felt over the wooden foundation before putting new shingles. This is to ensure that the new shingles do not stick to the wood. This is useful the next time that one plans to replace the old shingles.

The last step would be to add the new shingles. Nail the shingles in place and do one final inspection of the place. Once that is done, clean up and take out the scaffold.
