Finding Peace In A Christian Church

By Rebecca Fox

The thing about people is that they are capable of abstract thought. They look at the sky and wonder how it came to being. They wonder if there was a being out there that wove the night sky and ignited the stars. Now, whether or not there was are not questions that can be easily answered, but there some who would respond in the affirmative, despite no evidence supporting that, because for those people, there is something more important than evidence and that is faith. Those people may find themselves gathering in a Christian church Wichita KS.

Now, people hold religious beliefs for a lot of reasons. For many, it is habit, something they did with their families growing up that stuck with them to adulthood. Others simply hold sincere beliefs in their particular deity of choice.

The unfortunate reality of the world is that there will always be individuals with a lust for power and no scruples. Not only do these people exist today, they have existed throughout all of history. The chronicles of humankind are littered with those who have manipulated the beliefs of people to their own ends.

Christianity is a religion. In fact, it is the one with the greatest number of practitioners. It began in what is now the Middle East, with a wandering preacher who was once a carpenter, who spread about a message of love and kindness. It is a direct descendant of Judaism, another monotheistic religion from the same region.

A church does not have to be a whole building. It can be as small as a room. The main thing is that it is a place where people gather to worship and ruminate on the message of love spread by the desert carpenter. But they can also opulent, enough to be palaces unto themselves.

The most prominent and most populous branch of Christianity is Catholicism, which traces its historical roots back to original disciples of the carpenter. For a long time, it was the only branch. Then several splits happened in the Middle Ages and new sects branched out. In certain countries, some sects are more widely worshiped than others.

Because of all the sects available, it can be hard to find the right one. Of course, each one is going to have a set of core beliefs, but the way they interpret these beliefs can depend on the individual preacher. For example, one church may be big on forgiveness and reconciling with those who may have done a person wrong. Others will be more focused on retribution and go on and on about hellfire and brimstone and the eternal damnation that awaits those who do not follow them and only them.

Now, while religion is all well and good when done right, there are some people out there who have no intention to do any kind of good. A great measuring stick for whether or not a preacher is legit is whether or not they ask for money for things like a private jet. The crucified carpenter wandered around in nothing but sandals to spread the gospel, but some preachers apparently think that they are better than that person and decide they need private jets.

Whatever church is chosen, a follower needs to remember love. Love is the root of all Christianity. If not love, then at least common decency.
