By Jerry Davis

Food is a basic need that any human cannot do without. It is a product of an effective system of farming. All the stakeholders, therefore, need to be keen so as to ensure that they carry out all the processes as required. For instance, there should be impeccable grain bin monitoring to ensure that the produce is managed properly.

There are the stipulated ways in which the processes are rightfully done. It is imperative that they operate about these aspects. Therefore the professionals who have this experience should be indulged in the process to ensure everything is done in the right way. They should have the appropriate credentials to show they are qualified, and as well licensed.

Farmers are advised to ensure the bin is prepared long before the produce arrives. It is important since it ensures that the right conditions are put in place for receiving the produce. Therefore the necessary chemicals and factors must be prepared beforehand so as to prevent last minute rushes. Moreover, one should ensure the space is enough to accommodate the produce and avoid overloading the bin.

The rightful people regarding qualifications are the ones to be given the role. They must be trained and licensed for that matter. This shows they have what it takes to procure the process rightfully. Involving the less qualified and experienced experts is not advisable since they lack the technical know-how to manage meeting all the required conditions.

Nowadays, there are modern bins which are computerized. There are therefore controlled and monitored through computer systems. The people in charge simply look at the computer and tell whether the prevailing conditions are suitable. If they are unfavorable, they have to be corrected immediately and restored to the proper optimum ranges. Such conditions include temperature, whereby they can be hot or cold and are all suitable for different circumstances.

There should be free ground and adequate room for aeration. This ensures that the grains are well aerated and thus remain in the proper conditions, which are free from unfavorable factors. For instance, aeration distributes the heat and cold evenly and ensures there is no accumulation of either, which could not be favorable. Therefore the specialists in charge should be very alert to ensure that they maintain the factors constantly.

It is a good practice to keep revisiting the storage to ensure that all is well. If any strange smell is detected, which could imply some rotting, it must be corrected sooner so as to prevent elevation of the problem to serious levels. For instance, if any of the cereals are rotting they must be removed.

Finally, pests and parasites must be kept at bay at all cost. This is because they destroy the grains and cereals and accelerate rotting. Others may not rot, but their quality is reduced. They, therefore, command very low prices when taken to the market, which means the farmer operates at losses. Other than the losses, it means that there will be a shortage of food, a problem that should be prevented.
